This pretty little gem located on the opulent Persian Gulf is one of the small islands of Iran, which is called the Kish Island In this island, which was once known for its impressive pearls, you can have an extraordinary experience, as you will feel a modern atmosphere through the island with its innovative hotels and its up to date shopping malls. However Kish is not only about modern buildings, you can also explore its gorgeous hot sunny beaches with its golden sands, relax in its purified lucid sea water, visit its cultural heritages, experience some exciting shows and activities that are held over there, and altogether enjoy its free-trade-zone status. Kish is a dreamy picturesque coral island that contains remarkable attractions and even though it is a small island, it is a great treasure lying down in the magnificent Persian Gulf. The history of this island is not clearly known, however in the writing of Nearchus, who was an officer in the army of Alexander the Great, from 4^th century BCE, the name of an island “Arakata” in the Persian Gulf was mentioned, an island which is now known as Kish. Even it is said that the pearls of Wmperor’s wife in China was from Kish when Marcopolo visited the royal court in China; suggesting a  date around the late 13^th century or beginning of 14^th century! This suggests that even though most of its past is not well recorded but it has a long history; it is like the pieces of its history has been lost through the time. The numerous attractions of this mysterious island encompass its scenic nature, historical places and its exhilarating activities. From its scenic nature we can mention its alluring Marjan Beach (Coral Beach); from its historical places we can mention the peculiar Kariz Underground city, the Old City of Harireh and the sleeping Greek ship.

Marjan Beach (Coral Beach) is the captivating coral beach of this island. You can see the tremendous Persian Gulf from a different perspective, a perspective from which you can watch the mesmerizing blue color of the sea as well as its beautiful sea creatures. The beach contains an impressive park where you can chill and relax and enjoy the scenic view of the Persian Gulf. However, there are other beaches found on this island where you can chill in it.

Kish Island’s attractions aren’t only about shopping malls and beaches; its attractions are about mysterious historical places too! One of them is a secret city called the Kariz Underground City. The history of this underground city goes back to 2,500 years ago; in fact it is the remnant of the ancient aqueduct, called “qanat” in Persian, in the island that was built by the people of Harireh city in order to provide drinking water for inhabitants of the island. The old ancient aqueduct is now turned into this remarkable underground city.

Another wonder of this island is the ruins of an ancient town that belongs to the distant past, sometime in the 8^th century. Based on some people’s sayings this historical city was built at a time between the late Sassanid period and the early Islamic era. The name of this bizarre old town is the Old City of Harireh.

As you notice, Iran is a country full of history that you can find pieces of its history on many parts of this land, even on this small yet fascinating island. Another attraction of Kish Island is the picturesque Greek Ship, built in 1943, that lies in the Persian Gulf near the coast of this island since 1966!

The island’s attractions are not only its scenic nature or its historical treasures; it comprises many exciting activities like the thrilling scuba diving and water skiing as well as many other joyful water activities. Kish is also home to the first Iranian themed water park called the Ocean Water Park; make sure you won’t miss it.

According to its size this island is small, hence it goes large when it comes to the number of attractions it have; all the way from its luxurious hotels and cool shopping malls to its numerous activities and memorable festivals as well as its historical places.
